The Stylish Procrastinator's Guide to: HOLIDAY PARTIES Vol. 1
Whether you were invited last minute or you just forgot…
This guide is here to help you navigate holiday party attire, starting with items from your own closet!
Though I chose a black dress myself this year, this guide actually contains no dresses! We start with a classic black jean, a crisp oxford shirt, and even tackle styling that quintessential holiday sweater.
I’ve styled each item with three dress codes: casual, semi-formal, and formal. Keep in mind, in addition to linking items below, you can also click the photos to take you straight to the product page. This post is jam-packed, so let’s get started!

The Classic Black Jean
Lean on your closet’s most essential item this holiday season! No matter the formality, you can never go wrong with a sleek black jean as your starting point.
Cheery Casual
Bow Drop Earrings | Cable Knit Sweater | Velvet Emerald Loafers
I love when I can mix red and green during a holiday season without looking too over-the-top. Pairing this look with your black jeans keeps to the casual dress code, but still celebrates the season!

HOSTING THE HOLIDAYS
Velvet Wrap Top | Beaded Tassel Bag | Tartan Plaid Heels
Texture is so fun to play with during this season because the weather finally allows for it! (Latest post as proof!). This double velvet look with black jeans is simple yet chic.
A Formal Affair
Iridescent Heart Earrings | Sequin One Shoulder Draped Top | Feathered Sequin Heels
This might be one of my favorite looks on this guide! I love that you can wear black jeans with this look and still be ready for a formal party—this top is a show stopper. (Plus, I love the iridescent touch!)
The Oxford Shirt
Paired up or down, the quintessential white oxford shirt never fails to keep you stylish and dress code appropriate.
Cheery Casual
Monogram Lock Pendant | Tartan Plaid Pant | Two-Tone Sneaker
Normally with a collared shirt and plaid pant (a favorite of mine last seen here), this look would feel too dressy for a casual outing. Enter: sneakers! The greatest trend to ever unfold is the introduction of sneakers to a dressy look to tone it down. I’m a big fan of contrast dressing and this look fits the bill!
Cocktail Festive
Leopard Heels | Sequin Pencil Skirt | Flower Earrings
Love that leopard has made it's way to being a holiday party staple. Continue dressing up your oxford shirt with a cinnamon sequin skirt and poinsettia-style earrings in black!
A Formal Affair
Velvet Star Blazer | Velvet Star Trousers | Shooting Star Earrings
I’m FULLY on board with the dressed-up suit look for the holidays. Your oxford shirt under this sapphire velvet star embroidered suit will look uber chic and fashion forward. Pair with mirrored peep-toes and this galaxy box clutch for a complete celestial look!
The Unavoidable Holiday Sweater
Yes! I’ve included the holiday sweater to help make this obligatory tradition a stylish one.
Cheery Casual
Present Drop Earrings | Metallic Wide Leg Pant | Bow Mules
The key with the mandatory holiday sweater is to let it speak for itself and compliment it with chic and sophisticated items. I love a good tasteful holiday earring, and you can’t go wrong with a metallic pant!
Cocktail Festive
Emerald Velvet Blazer | Emerald Velvet Trouser | Rainbow Embellished Pump
I love the idea of dressing up a holiday sweater with a velvet suit! This look might be a little too fancy for a cocktail code with the rainbow embellished heels (sue me!), so you can also pair this with suede smoking slipper to continue the borrowed-from-the-boys look or a leather ballet flat to make it femme.
A Formal Affair
High Low Hem Jacquard Flower Skirt | Metallic Cherry Red Pump | Crystal Embellished Minaudière
When I first picked out this look, I sought after a tulle metallic ball gown skirt.. but those are difficult to come by, believe it or not! I’ll admit this jacquard gilded floral skirt has to be paired with a more simple holiday sweater, but the metallic cherry red pumps and heart shaped minaudière can be paired with anything you choose!
…there you have it!
Hopefully your holiday outfit navigating was made easier by this guide and starting with items you already have in your closet. When compiling this, I found so many great options for this season. I’ve linked them all below.
