Hey, Hollywood!

“Toto, we’re not in Nashville anymore.”

Can you imagine if Dorothy’s ruby slippers had been electric green snakeskin? I did recently learn that in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book (published in 1900), her slippers were actually silver, representing the late 1890’s free silver movement. However, to take advantage of the new Technicolor film process used in big-budget Hollywood films of the era, her shoes were changed to ruby red. It seems like most people knew this already though—did you?
